The headline story for Spanish paper El Confidential on Sunday centres of Real Madrid and Karim Benzema.
Benzema has been in a downward spiral at the Santiago Bernabeu for much of the season. Madrid fans have got on the Frenchman’s back, while the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo have tried to ease tensions.
However, El Confidential have recycled to old story that Benzema’s days in Madrid are numbered. This weekend’s update suggests Benzema’s performance against PSG in the Champions League provoked a fresh round of discussions involving Florentino Perez shipping the striker out the club.
Six strikers are then linked to Los Blancos.
Two players who are on Real Madrid’s viewfinder are Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Tottenham centre-forward Harry Kane.
Aubameyang? But he just moved to Arsenal in January?!
El Confidencial claims Aubameyang remains interested in Real Madrid, as does his mother and grandparents who have Spanish roots.
Yet, it’s highly unlikely that deal happens.
Similarly, Tottenham will hold onto Harry Kane. It’s noted that Spurs and Real have a “complicated relationship”, which might be translated to mean Madrid hate negotiating with Daniel Levy.
Perhaps the juiciest update in El Confidencial is related to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Is the Egyptian untouchable at Anfield? No, claim the Spanish media.
Salah, the Premier League’s joint-top scorer, is said to be “prohibitively expensive”, yet Real have been told a price “through intermediaries”.
It’s at least the same figure which Barcelona paid for Philippe Coutinho – 160 million euros – while Liverpool are said to be demanding 180 million euros, which is what PSG paid Monaco for Kylian Mbappe.
